Our first european stop was Barcelona for some tennis and dinner with the new years musicians. Then on to Rome to pick up a rental car for our trip down to the boat in Vibo Valentina.

In Tripoli where we visited the magnificent Villa d’Este, a 16th century villa built by a Cardinal with 11 acres of gardens and hundreds of fountains. The next day we stopped at the remains of Hadrian’s villa  built in 120 AD. An overnight stay in Stabia, a rather nondescript coastal town, and then on to Vibo Valentina for our first night on the boat in 2026.

In reviewing the winter works, we had a number of punch list items we wanted fixed before heading out for the summer, of course it was Friday. With a few days to kill, we headed over to Tropea, one of the ‘pearls of Italy’ – a hill town. On May 19th we were off the dock headed for Salerno with stops in Centrano, Matera, and Agricola.

In Salerno we walked the waterfront promenade, stocked up the boat and visited a wonderful small wine shop with charcuterie. Tad and Diane Templeton joined us here in Salerno. Leaving Salerno we cruised along the Amalfi coast with a stop in Positano for lunch and a hike thru the tourist crush. For the next two days we used Sorrento as a base walking the city and taking a road trip to the wonderful winery at Villarena.

Then we cruised over to the island of Ischia. Here we rented a car and drove around the island, Sant‘ Angelo being the highlight of the towns we visited. Our final stop with Tad and Diane was the smaller island of Procida where they caught a ferry back to Naples. We will miss the fun stories, fine wine and hardy laughter. We then headed over to the mainland at Barcoli.

On Brocoli we explored the Roman ruins and the castle.  Patrick and Jodi Farrell joined us on the 30th and we headed back to a marina at the other end of Procida. The following day we did a day boat trip around Ischi with a lunch stop at Sant’ Angelos.

We then headed out to a couple of islands about 25 miles off shore, Ventonene was out first stop. Wow, easy to fall in love with this place. Here we were lucky to find a spot on the municipal wall using a traditional anchor down Med moor.

Next stop was the island of Ponza, more touristic than Ventotene but still charming. This time we were English style moored, a side tie. Gratefully for marina shuttle into the city. From here, Jodi and Patrick leave by ferry on their way to Sorrento.

We headed over to Gaeta on the mainland for a few days before heading up to the Dolphin Marina on the Tiber River near the Rome airport. Leaving the boat, we flew to Colorado for the memorial ceremony for Marcia’s parents.
